Measles Campaign Started to Vaccinate Children in Over 500 Woredas in Ethiopia

Ethiopia launched emergency measles vaccination campaign on Friday April 22, 2016 targeting over 500 drought affected hot spot woredas in 10 regions (except AA) which includes Gambella; Benishangul Gumuz, Oromia, Amhara, SNNPR, Tigray, Afar, Somali, Dire Dawa and Harari.

The campaign will continue till April 28, 2016 and it is expected to immunize children with measles vaccine in all targeted woredas.  The age group for measles campaign is 6 months to < 15 years and the strategy is fixed post (health centers, hospitals or Health posts), temporary fixed post (schools, kebeles) and mobile fixed post in pastoral communities. 

World Health organization (WHO) and EPI partners have deployed more than 30 staff from central team in addition to the field team from all regions who have been supporting the regional health bureau (RHB) in pre-campaign activities and they would continue to provide their support throughout the campaign implementation.
