There is an old African proverb that I especially find relevant for today.

Ghana commemorated World Malaria Day on 25 April in Takoradi, Western Region, under the theme, “Invest in the future: Defeat Malaria” Speaking at the function, Dr Gloria Quansah-Asare, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), disclosed that Ghana has made significant progress in the fight against malaria over the past two decades as evidenced in the Ghana Demographic Health Survey (GDHS) 2014.

SCHOOLS, YOUNG BOYS AND YOUNG GIRLS FIRST! The message was clear enough for all vaccinators and supervisors. This had been one of the key recommendations made by WHO Officers supporting the campaign with Mr Stanley Diamenu in Upper West Region, Dr Vincent Ahove in Upper East Region and Dr Pierre Bwale, MenA Consultant based at Tamalé, the Capital City of Northern Region.

In effect, vaccinations sites had been established in all those areas. Young vaccinators made up of males and females wearing their yellow aprons were ready for the service.

Ghana adopted a Food Safety Policy on 27 April, 2015 at a Stakeholders Meeting held in Accra ahead of World Health Day 2015 with the theme Food Safety from Farm to Plate. The policy was developed with technical and financial support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Accra, Ghana 12 June 2015 - The Deputy Director General of WHO, Dr  Asamoah-Baah has called on delegates to ensure that Tobacco Taxation and Tobacco Control policies are implemented in a timely manner in their respective countries.  Speaking at the closing ceremony of the high level tobacco taxation meeting held in Accra Ghana, Dr Asamoah-Baah reiterated the fact that tobacco taxation remains one of the most effective methods to reduce tobacco use, particularly among the youth and poorer population.   He therefore urged delegates to take what has been discussed here and use it well when the

Accra, 17 June 2015-The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday called on Ghana to urgently ratify the Protocol on illicit trade of tobacco products in the country as a sure measure to protect public health.

The Organization urged the Ministry of Health to work to get the legal instrument on illicit trade of tobacco reviewed and submitted for parliamentary approval as soon as practicable.

Dr Magda Robalo, WHO Country Representative, made the appeal at the opening of a two-day high level meeting on Tobacco Taxation Policy in the African Region in Accra.

This year’s African Vaccination Week was commemorated together with the annual Child Health Promotion Week on the 23rd April, 2013 under the theme “Healthy Children; Great Future” with the slogan “Vaccinate, Prevent disabilities, Save lives”.

Accra,  19 June 2015 - In response to heavy rains and flooding, the World Health Organization has donated about 5 tons of essential medical supplies to treat severe and moderate cases of diarrhoea and cholera worth nearly US$100,000 to the Ministry of Health. The consignment consists of three Interagency Diarrhoeal Disease Kits containing enough medicines and equipment such as oral rehydration salts (ORS), intravenous fluids and medical equipment to treat over 2,000 episodes of severe and moderate diarrhoea.
