WHO Rwanda drivers on field amid the COVID-19 wave

Kigali, 30 June 2021 - Since mid-June, Rwanda has been experiencing a spike in the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases each day. To support the country in facing the new wave, UN Agencies under the One UN Rwanda commonly agreed to commit further human and financial resources to the country’s COVID-19 response.

Kigali, 5 June 2021 – It was only two years ago, on 1 May 2019, that Dr. Kasonde Mwinga was appointed as the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Rwanda. Today Dr. Kasonde passes on the torch to the Incoming Acting WHO Rwanda Country Representative Dr. Ndoungou Salla Ba. 

The system stalling COVID-19 importation into Rwanda

The aircraft engines power down as disembarking passengers rummage through their carry-on bags for documents in readiness for immigration. This is Kigali International Airport, a busy regional hub. The country has implemented an innovative electronic tracking system to stop the domestic spread of COVID-19 from arriving passengers.

03 May 2021 — Fifty-eight (28) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2856 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to twenty-five thousand, three hundred, and eleven (25311). To date, twenty-three thousand, five hundred, and thirteen (23513) patients have recovered, including one seventy-one (71) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and sixty-one (1461) and three hundred and thirty-seven (337) deaths.

02 May 2021 — Twenty-eight (28) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3763 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to twenty-five thousand, two hundred, and fifty-three (25253). To date, twenty-three thousand, four hundred, and forty-two (23442) patients have recovered, including one hundred and eleven (111) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and seventy-four (1474) and three hundred and thirty-seven (337) deaths.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to twenty-five thousand, two hundred, and fifty-three (25253). To date, twenty-three thousand, four hundred, and forty-two (23442) patients have recovered, including one hundred and eleven (111) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, four hundred, and seventy-four (1474) and three hundred and thirty-seven (337) deaths.

01 May 2021 — One hundred and nine (109) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3478 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to twenty-five thousand, two hundred, and twenty-five (25225). To date, twenty-three thousand, three hundred, and forty-five (23345) patients have recovered, including one hundred and eleven (111) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, five hundred, and forty-five (1545) and three hundred and thirty-five (335) deaths.

30 April 2021 — One hundred and twenty-one (121) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4868 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-five thousand, one hundred, and sixteen (25116). To date, twenty-three thousand, two hundred, and thirty-four (23234) patients have recovered, including twenty-eight (28) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, five hundred, and forty-seven (1547) and three hundred and thirty-five (335) deaths.
