Lusaka, 12 July 2016 – The National HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing Day is commemorated each year in Zambia on 30 June since 2006. The VCT Day provides a platform for the whole nation, provinces and districts with the opportunity to create awareness about HIV and to increase access to information and HIV testing services. 

Lusaka, 24th August 2016 - WHO Country Office staff are undergoing a training course on the National District Health Information System from 22-27 August 2016. The training which is facilitated by trainers from the Directorate of Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Health is intended to equip the WHO staff with skills on how to use the web-based health facility database called District Health Information System (DHIS2) and to provide access rights for using the facility.

Lusaka,  21 September 2016 - In its continued efforts to improve child health and survival, the Ministry of Health introduced the Measles Rubella vaccine (MR) in the national routine immunisation system. The vaccine is being introduced through the nationwide preventive vaccination campaign targeting a total of 6,926,757 children aged 9 months to under 15 years. The vaccination campaign runs from 19th to 24th September 2016 and covers a total of 103 districts in all the 10 provinces in the country.

Lusaka, 14 November 2016 - The WHO Country Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare and the University of Zambia  organized a workshop for orientation of government ministries and other stakeholders on implementation of Health in All Policies (HiAP) from 30th October to 4th November 2016. In order to support the implementation of HiAP by member countries, WHO launched a series of trainer of trainers’ program in different regions in the year 2015.

Lusaka, 14 November 2016 - In order to improve the understanding of  WHO Business Rules by senior management, finance and technical staff of the Ministry of Health, the WHO Country Office (WCO) organized a training workshop for five of the provinces in Zambia namely Central, Southern, Lusaka, Western and Eastern provinces from 26 October to 4th November 2016 in Siavonga. The second phase of the training which will cover the five remaining provinces namely Northern, North-Western, Copperbelt, Muchinga and Luapula provinces will be conducted at the end of November 2016.

Lusaka, 15th November 2016 - The WHO Country Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Health conducted a training workshop for orientation of health staff heading health institutions in the clinical management of Gender Based Violence (GBV) survivors using a multi-sectoral approach. The workshop took place from 31 October to 4 November 2016 in Lilayi, Chilanga District. A total of  42  participants were in attendance. These included District Medical Officers, Senior Medical Superintendents, Medical Officers and Heads of Clinical Care.

Lusaka, 30 November 2016 – The Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Her Honour, Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina officially launched the inaugural National Health Week in Zambia on 28 November in Lusaka. The function brought together government ministries and departments, United Nations Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations, research and academic institutions, private sector, academic institutions, the media and the general public.

Lusaka, 12 December 2016 - The Zambian Government was honoured as the fourth country in Africa to host the Joint Mission of the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (UNIATF) from 5-9 December 2016. The objective of the visit by the UNIATF to Zambia was to support the UN Country Team and the Government to scale up the national multi-sectoral response to NCDs in line with the WHO Global NCD Action Plan 2013-2020 and relevant regional WHO action plans.

Lusaka, 25 January 2017 - The WHO Country Office in Zambia is conducting the last in the series of workshops aimed at orienting senior managerial, finance and technical staff of the Ministry of Health on WHO’s business rules from 19 - 27 January 2017.
