Staff Association hosts welcome event for new WR

The Zimbabwe Staff Association today hosted a tea and cake event to welcome the new WHO Representative to Zimbabwe, Dr Alex Gasasira to the office. Dr Gasasira assumed office on 6th August 2018. The event, which was held in the Boardroom, was an opportunity for Dr Gasasira to meet the staff and for the staff to extend a warm Zimbabwean welcome to him.
Mr Patrick Avognon, the Operations Officer led the staff in welcoming Dr Gasasira with “Mauya!” the shona word for welcome. He said the Zimbabwe team welcomes Dr Gasasira and is ready to work under his leadership.

Free blood for Zimbabwe’s public health institutions

The promise was made as Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Blood Donor Day at a function held at Gweru Provincial Hospital. Every year on 14 June, the global community celebrates World Blood Donor Day. This year’s theme is focused on blood donation as an act of solidarity: Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life. This draws attention to the regular and voluntary blood donors, and encourages people to care for one another by donating blood.

Zimbabwe launches Health Financing Policy and Strategy

6 June 2018. Today Zimbabwe became the 17th country in the WHO AFRO Region which have completed their Health Financing Strategies; when they launched the Zimbabwe Health Financing Policy and Strategy. The launch, which was held at Murewa District Hospital in Mashonaland East Province, brought together different players in the health sector including senior Government officials, parliamentarians, civil society organizations, health development partners and donors as well as members of the local communities in Murewa District.

Zimbabwe commemorates World Health Day

13 April.   Zimbabwe commemorated  World Health Day at the WHO compound in an event which saw the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of WHO as well as the launch of the Healthy Ageing Strategy. World Health Day is commemorated on the 7th of April each year to mark WHO’s founding and is an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year.

Call made for Leaders for a TB free Zimbabwe
