HARARE, Zimbabwe, 16 April 2019 – An oral cholera vaccine (OCV) campaign targeting some 487 825 people began Tuesday in Zimbabwe in the two districts most affected by cyclone Idai. 

The Ministry of health and Child Care (MOHCC) launched a Mental Health strategy to cover the period 2019- 2023. This comes at a time when the Ministry of Health and Child Care is moving with the global thrust to promote early identification, treatment, rehabilitative and palliative services in non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The Ministry of health and Child Care (MOHCC) convened a partners meeting for dialogue on the treatment of substance use disorders on the 1^st of February 2018. This came at the realization of the growing problem of substance use disorders as shown by reports from institutions managing mental health problems.

The workshop, was held from 9 to 11 January 2019 at Mazowe Hotel in Mashonaland Central province. The meeting was prompted by several factors including the fact that Zimbabwe does not have a water safety plan or a water quality monitoring plan and is facing an onslaught from cholera and typhoid outbreaks which are both associated with poor water quality and sanitation.

Harare, 17 Dec. 2018 Today witnessed the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and World Health Organization signing a USD 1 million grant for emergency assistance to support efforts to control and stop the 2018 cholera outbreak.  The $1 million will be used to contribute to financing implementation of Zimbabwe’s National Cholera response plan.

Norton, 16 Oct. 2018.  Zimbabwe commemorated a belated World Mental Health Day at St Padre Pio Clinic in Norton, in an event that brought together players in mental health, support groups for people with mental health issues, and some patients from Harare Central Hospital Psychiatric Unit. This year’s Mental Health Day was launched under the theme; Mental health and young people in a changing world which focuses on helping young people to be resilient in the face of life changes.

Harare 9 October 2018. A joint World Health Organization and International Civil Aviation Organization Training of Trainers for Public Health Event Management in Air Transport kicked off in Harare yesterday.

Harare, 9 Oct. 2018. On 3rd October, the new WHO Representative to Zimbabwe, Dr Alex Gasasira presented his credentials to the Government of Zimbabwe through the Minister of Home Affairs, Honourable Cain G. Mathema in his capacity as the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

The Zimbabwe Staff Association today hosted a tea and cake event to welcome the new WHO Representative to Zimbabwe, Dr Alex Gasasira to the office. Dr Gasasira assumed office on 6th August 2018. The event, which was held in the Boardroom, was an opportunity for Dr Gasasira to meet the staff and for the staff to extend a warm Zimbabwean welcome to him.
Mr Patrick Avognon, the Operations Officer led the staff in welcoming Dr Gasasira with “Mauya!” the shona word for welcome. He said the Zimbabwe team welcomes Dr Gasasira and is ready to work under his leadership.
