WHO Zambia and Prudential Zambia Partner for Sustainable Healthcare Service Provision
WHO Zambia has partnered with Prudential Zambia to launch the Health Facility Solar Installation Project, a groundbreaking initiative that marks the first collaboration between WHO Zambia and the private sector.
This pioneering project has been made possible through the generous support of the Prudence Foundation, the community development arm of Prudential PLC. The foundation has disbursed US$100,000 for installing solar panels in up to eight selected health facilities across Zambia.
The Health Facility Solar Installation Project aims to provide sustainable power to health facilities, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services and reducing carbon emissions. This initiative will not only improve the quality of healthcare but also contribute to environmental sustainability, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
Dr Clement Lasuba, WHO Country Representative, expressed his enthusiasm for the project:
“This partnership marks our first collaboration with the private sector to support health service interventions directly. We are excited about this project's positive impact on healthcare delivery and environmental sustainability. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Prudential Zambia and hope to inspire other organizations to join us in this important cause.”
Mr Kachiza Kwenda, CEO of Prudential Life Assurance Zambia, highlighted the project's dual benefits:
"This project is a critical investment in renewable energy and improving healthcare services in the communities we serve. We are dedicated to creating climate-resilient communities, and this project is a testament to our role in climate action.”
This partnership is a significant milestone for WHO Zambia, as it represents the first ever venture into collaborating with the private sector. The project aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to achieve a common goal: enhancing healthcare delivery and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
