Newly appointed NAFDAC DG seeks to strengthen partnership with WHO Nigeria
Abuja, 11 January, 2018, In an effort to strengthen the longtime partnership between WHO and NAFDAC, the new Director-General (DG) of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Professor Moji Christiana Adeyeye paid courtesy visit to the World Health Organization Country Representative (WR) Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu.
The DG who was in company of the directors of the drug regulatory agency, traced the long time relationship between NAFDAC and WHO to many years ago. Professor Adeyeye disclosed that she is “passionate about the work of WHO as it is the only health organization in the world that can feel the pulse of every country’s health system”
Adeyeye a seasoned pharmacist with proven track record in pharmaceutical manufacturing unveiled some priority areas of NAFDAC. These include among other; improving services of laboratories in Oshodi and Yaba to meet international standard in order to qualify for WHO accreditation; training and retraining of staff of the agency and improving customer service relationship between the agency the Nigerian public.
Recognising the important of partnership and collaboration between NAFDAC and WHO, Professor Adeyeye then requested the WHO to continue to provide support provided to the agency especially in assisting Yaba Laboratory to meet WHO prequalification.
Responding to the request of the DG, the WR Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu acknowledged the close working relationship between the organisation and NAFDAC. “WHO has been closely working with NAFDAC to build the capacity of its staff; monitoring of medicines, instituting quality control measures and ensuring post marketing standard procedures are followed. We will continue to work on these areas of collaboration and explore other areas where WHO can add value to the work of NAFDAC” WR said.
