Kano, 9 September, 2021 - On 25 August 2021, African countries marked one-year anniversary of Polio certification. Programme managers, health workers and polio survivors in Nigeria also celebrated the wild polio- free status in the country.

Abuja August 26, 2021- At a solemn event in Abuja, the United Nations (UN) System in Nigeria held a commemorative ceremony to honor victims of terrorist attack on UN facilities 10 years ago. 

The incident which happened on the 26 of August 2011 claimed the lives of 23 UN employees and civilians and left over 60 people injured.

Abuja, 19 August 2021 - Nigerians awaiting their second dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine can sigh of relief as the government on 17 August 2021 received additional 699,760 doses in Abuja. 

The vaccines, donated to COVAX by the United Kingdom (UK) will immensely support government’s response to the pandemic. 

Maiduguri, 19 August, 2021 - “I was distraught seeing my four years old son, Hassan, emaciating rapidly due to measles. I could barely eat or converse with my neighbors’ in camp because of his deteriorating health.  Weeks ago, he was fine and playing with other children, but here he was helpless, lost weight and could barely sit by himself because he has not been eating well”, says Amina Abubakar, Hassan’s mother.

Abuja, 16 August, 2021 - The Federal Government has launched the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination on 16 August 2021 in Abuja; A continuous effort towards curbing the spread of the disease in the country. 

Abuja, 8 August, 2021 - Nigeria has taken delivery of 177,600 Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine on 12 August 2021 in Abuja. The delivery marks the first wave of arrivals of COVID-19 vaccines procured through the African Union. 

“The arrival of these vaccines will be yet another step in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Dr Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

Umuahia, 10 August, 2021 - Abia State located in the south east geopolitical zone, has vaccinated over one million children with the novel oral polio vaccine 2 (nOPV2) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners during the second outbreak vaccination response campaign. 

During the 6-day exercise (31 July-04 August), 1,077, 562 children were vaccinated in 10,934 communities from 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
