Kigoma - Maternal death is a significant problem in Tanzania. According to the Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey 2016, by average 556 women die from childbirth, a slight decrease over ten years from 578 in 2005. With the current annual rate of reduction, Tanzania may not meet the global goal of reducing maternal deaths to less than 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030.

Dar es Salaam: Last year, the United Nations passed a resolution on Global Drowning Prevention and the problem is now gaining importance among different sectors in Tanzania and East Africa countries that share the Lake Victoria, the second biggest fresh water lake in the world.

Dar es Salaam - The Global Fund Executive Director, Mr. Peter Sands, was received in Tanzania for a two-day official visit that builds up towards the seventh Global Fund Replenishment conference set for 19 -21 September 2022 in the United States.

Zanzibar - Oxygen is the most critical medicine for people with severe COVID-19, yet its supplies are unstable in many countries. Without a significant investment in oxygen infrastructure, those whose illness is severe and who cannot access oxygen will die.

A third round of polio vaccination for all children under five is underway in Tanzania. In this campaign Tanzania targets to vaccinate 12,386,854 under fives from 1—4 September in all 31 regions and 195 districts of Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

Dar es Salaam - The impactful integration of gender – along with equity and human rights approaches– into the corporate work of the World Health Organization is underscored as one of the Organization’s strategic priorities in its Thirteenth General Programme of Work 2019 to 2023 (GPW13).

Dar es Salaam: The World Health Organization in the African region is embarking on a continent-wide effort to eliminate Cholera in the Region. This commitment is in line with “the Ending cholera: A global roadmap to 2030” strategy, that seeks to reduce cholera deaths by 90% and eliminate the disease transmission in 20 countries.

Sumbawanga and Zanzibar – The World Health Organization in Tanzania is working with the Ministries of Health in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, to implement a community mobilization campaign aimed at raising the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination in Districts with low coverage; using vaccine “champions”.

Tanzania is among the priority countries benefitting from the implementation of World Health Organization Emergency Preparedness and Response projects that aim to promote multisectoral convergence of resources and skills for rapid and efficient response to a disaster.
