ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Dr. Owen Laws Kaluwa, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Ethiopia, recently led a senior delegation on a crucial mission to assess health activities and strengthen partnerships across the Dire Dawa City Administration and the Harari and Somali regional states. Conducted from July 2 to July 4, 2024, this marked Dr. Kaluwa’s first field mission since assuming his role in April 2024.

The World Health Organization (WHO) team led by the WHO Country Representative Dr Innocent Nuwagira joined the Senior Leadership of the Ministry of Health (MOH) led by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sartie Kenneh on a two-day visit from 22 to 23 August 2024 to Moyamba district to check the readiness of sites at different levels of health care to implement person-centered life stage approach to health service delivery, which is essential for achieiving Universal Health Coverage. 

The Angolan Ministry of Health, through the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Programme, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), Camões - Portuguese Cooperation Centre and the Private University of Angola (UPRA), held a ‘Tea of Ideas’ in Luanda on the mental health situation in Angola.

Lilongwe- WHO Malawi, officially handed over 48 sets of Pediatric Severe Acute Malnutrition kits worth MK62,230,980.00 to the Ministry of Health. These kits represent a crucial contribution to Malawi's healthcare system, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by pediatric severe acute malnutrition (SAM).

Kampala, 20 August 2024 - Ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in Uganda have today committed to provide the needed resources to support the Government of Uganda in responding to the ongoing mpox outbreak. The commitment was made during a comprehensive briefing organized in Kampala by the Ministry of Health (MoH) with support from World Health Organization (WHO).

Busoga, Uganda, 13 August 2024 – The Ministry of Health (MoH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have launched a refurbishment of 28 health facilities in Uganda’s Busoga sub-region. This initiative, which is a crucial step in service delivery is with the financial backing of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

On 02 August 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Government of Japan donated cervical cancer screening instruments to the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) in the Omaheke region. The donation was made under the Japan-funded project titled Increasing Access to Quality Nutrition and Protection Services for Vulnerable Populations including women and children, which aims to increase access to nutrition interventions to prevent and manage malnutrition among women and children. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) with support from the Government of Japan, partnered with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) to conduct the African Vaccination Week in the Omaheke region, from 05 – 09 August 2024.  This initiative served as a crucial platform to raise awareness about the importance of vaccines, combat vaccine hesitancy and amplify vaccination activities. The Omaheke region faces escalating malnutrition cases and a challenging landscape for providing essential health services including immunization.

Dar es Salaam: The World Health Organization (WHO), with funding support from the Irish Fund, has donated 12 motorcycles to the Government of Tanzania. This donation is set to boost the effectiveness of district surveillance officers in monitoring and mentoring health facilities, significantly improving adherence to integrated disease surveillance and response strategies.
