Africa is gradually making strides in fighting malaria across the continent through the Accelerating Malaria Vaccine Introduction and Rollout in Africa (AMVIRA) initiative. As Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Niger are gearing up for the introduction and rollout of the malaria vaccines, the World Health Organization (WHO) with funding from PATH and partners convened stakeholders from these countries to learn from Benin, Ghana, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Liberia, and Sierra Leone’s malaria vaccination experience and ensure adequate preparation towards new introductions and rollout across these countries.

Kagera - The World Health Organization (WHO) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has handed over a refurbished infectious disease isolation unit in Mutukula (a Tanzania-Uganda border community) to the Ministry of Health in the Kagera Region.

The utilization of this unit at the One-stop border point is set to facilitate screening measures on travellers at points of entry to prevent cross-border transmission of disease by detecting and prohibiting travel to exposed or ill travellers from affected areas.

Harare - Dr. Desta Tiruneh, the newly appointed World Health Organization Representative for Zimbabwe, officially presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honorable Frederick Shava, marking the commencement of his tenure.

His appointment took effect on 1 April 2024.
