Uganda’s Ministry of Health (MOH), with support from World Health Organization (WHO), has convened a meeting to raise awareness and commitment on implementing sustainable priority interventions to prevent and control diabetes. The spotlight meeting was under the theme, Multi-Stakeholder Action for Achieving Global Targets for Diabetes.

Osun, 31 March, 2023 - “I was coughing out blood persistently for weeks, had fever, weakness, night sweats, severe chest pain. I had bought drugs from a patent medicine store, but it was not working. 

I was later diagnosed with TB at the National Youth Service orientation camp when I fell ill,” says 23 years old Adewale Adebukola, residing in Osun state. 

Adebukola has since been placed on treatment and is getting better.

Mutare, Zimbabwe – Nine-year old Ngakudzwe, was diagnosed with inguinal hernia when he was only four years old. With little knowledge of the condition- and no money to seek medical help- his father, Mr Nicholas Mwanditani, had no option but just pray so that his son would feel less pain.

The Marburg Virus Disease outbreak in The United Republic of Tanzania, in Mid-March, was yet another opportunity for Uganda to test the sensitivity and alertness of its response system. This was more so given that the epicenter of the outbreak was a mere 82 km from the common border. There was no laxity, no slackness but immediate action.    

Simiyu  - Tanzania marked the World TB Day in 2023, with the launch of the Multisectoral Accountability Framework to end TB (MAF TB) in Simiyu region, Northern central Tanzania. The high-level launch was graced by the Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa and attended by the health minister and partners involved in TB response in Tanzania.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Malaria Day 2023 and the launch of the lifesaving vector control tool, the Insecticide Treated Mosquitoes nets (ITNs).  

The function took place on 25th April in Bugiri district under the national theme, ‘Getting back on track through investing, innovating, and implementation’. The day was preceded by a match past through town intended to raise awareness and mobilize communities to fight malaria which has claimed many lives in Uganda.

Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate International Tuberculosis (TB) Day, on March 24, 2023, with a commitment from Government and stakeholders to step up efforts to end the TB epidemic by 2030.
