Luanda – Angola held the first National Forum on Immunization and Primary Health Care on 16 June this year, reaffirming the strategic importance of immunization as a platform to accelerate the provision of integrated, equitable and sustainable services, and guarantee universal coverage of health.

Abuja, 15 June, 2021 - A 43-year-old humanitarian worker, Mrs Khadijat Shuahib, has devoted herself to being a voluntary blood donor since 2012 and connects patients and families who need blood during emergencies to voluntary blood donors.

Mrs Shuahib recounts that she became a voluntary donor after the ordeal of obtaining blood for a scheduled surgery. 

Abuja, 15 June, 2021 - Nigeria’s Minster of State for Health, Dr Olorunnibe Mamora reaffirms that the government will coordinate, regulate and ensure the provision of safe, quality blood transfusion services.

This, he said will be achieved through the implementation of the mandate of newly established National Blood Service Commision (NBSC). 

The Ministry of Health has received an additional 2,800 oxygen cylinders and 48,172,700 syringes from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to support the continued fight against COVID-19 and other health complications in the country.

On 10 June 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Zambia with the kind support of the Gavi Alliance donated 700 data collection electronic devices and related accessories worth One Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety US Dollars (US$122,290) to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Department of the Ministry of Health (MoH) to support the efficient and effective real-time data collection, monitoring and evaluation of the COVID-19 vaccination process and related information.

3 June 2022 – WHO in collaboration with MOH conducted a 2 days’ workshop to scale up IDSR for prompt detection and effective response to monkeypox outbreak and other public health emergencies. A total of 45 participants from the Zobas and the National level participated in the workshop. Each zoba was represented by 5 participants namely: IDSR focal person, physician, health promotion officer, laboratory technician and EPI focal person.

The World Health Organization Country Office for South Africa, in partnership with the National Department of Health (NDoH) and Clinton Health Access Initiative, organized a policy workshop on Strengthening Health Systems Resilience Towards Universal Health Coverage on 19^th  and 20^th May 2022 in Cape Town.
