On Thursday, 20 April 2022, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa was admitted to the Honorary Fellowship of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA). The formal ceremony that was presided over by Professor Flavia Senkubuge, the President of the Senate of the CMSA took place at Rhema Bible Church in Morningside suburb of Johannesburg city of South Africa.

RTS,S/AS01 (RTS,S) is the first vaccine recommended by WHO for use against a human parasitic disease of any kind. If introduced widely, it could save tens of thousands of lives each year.

Brazzaville/Kinshasa, 23 April 2022 – The health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo today declared an outbreak of Ebola after a case was confirmed in Mbandaka, a city in the north-western Equateur Province. This is the third outbreak in the province since 2018.

Abuja, 22 April, 2022 - The World Health Organization will be conducting a hybrid training in Abuja on 25 to 29 April, 2022 for health professionals emphasizing the importance of integrating the oral cholera vaccine (OCV) as option for emergency and preventive cholera outbreak in endemic countries. 

A measles vaccination campaign was conducted in Ethiopia from February to March 2022 in SNNP, Somali and Oromia regions targeting more than half a million children aged between 6 months to 10 years. The campaign aimed to stop the spread of a measles outbreak reported from 12 woredas (districts) in three regions: seven woredas of SNNP, one woreda of Guji Zone in Oromia, and four woredas of Somali putting more than 650,000 children at risk.

Kampala, 19th April 2022: - The Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Tree Adoption Uganda (TAU), joined hands to commemorate World Health Day in a tree-planting exercise, in line with the day’s theme, “Our Planet, Our Health”.

Through the “Our planet, our health” campaign, the Ministry of Health and WHO highlighted the need to address the dangers of climate change while also urging the public to take steps to protect the planet, their health and prioritize the well-being of societies.

17 April 2022, Addis Ababa –On 15 April 2022, Ethiopia kicked off the second-round polio campaign with type 2 novel oral polio vaccine (nOPV2) aiming to protect over 16 million under-five children from disability and death due to the ongoing polio outbreak in the country. The campaign is taking place on 15-18 April in all regions except Addis Ababa, Afar and Tigray, where it will be conducted at different later dates.
