Kigali – Forty-eight hours after Rwanda received shipments of COVID-19 vaccines, vaccinations began in earnest, with high-risk population given priority. The country plans to vaccinate a third of the population in 2021 and double that figure next year.

07 April 2021 — One hundred, and seventy-night (179) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 5266 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-three thousand, and forty-one (23041). To date, twenty thousand, eight hundred, and thirty-five (20835) patients have recovered, including one hundred and thirty (130) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, eight hundred, and ninety-two (1892) and three hundred and fourteen (314) deaths. 

Government and Stakeholder Take Stock of The Gambia’s COVID-19 Response

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and its stakeholders are conducted a national intra-action review of the COVID-19 response with the support of World Health Organization (WHO). The review lasted six days, i.e., from 06 to 10 April 2021 and was held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre. The review was aimed at improving the national response to COVID-19 and to  strengthen the capacities to effectively respond to any emergency.

Clara Magalasi, from rural Lilongwe, Malawi, walked 4 kilometers to ensure her daughter Grace, age 22 months, received her 4th and final dose of the malaria vaccine – the 4-dose regimen provides optimal malaria prevention benefits as a complementary malaria control tool.
Clara Magalasi, who lives in a rural village near Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi, woke up to a grey morning with a dull sky that was threatening rain. For Clara, the weather did not stop her from walking 4 kilometers to Chileka Health Centre. Her daughter Grace Butawo, who just turned 22 months, was due for her fourth and final dose of the RTS,S malaria vaccine.

06 April 2021 — One hundred, and seventy-eight (178) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 7864 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-two thousand, eight hundred, and sixty-two (22862). To date, twenty thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-five (20705) patients have recovered, including one hundred and eleven (111) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, eight hundred, and forty-three (1843) and three hundred and fourteen (314) deaths.

05 April 2021 — Two hundred and two (202) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3835 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases twenty-two thousand, six hundred, and eighty-four (22684). To date, twenty thousand, five hundred, and ninety-four (20594) patients have recovered, including seventy-five (75) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-nine (1779) and three hundred and eleven (311) deaths. 

COVID-19 vaccination kicks-off in South Sudan

The first person in the country to be vaccinated against the virus was the Hon. Minister of Health Elizabeth Achuei

Juba, South Sudan 6 April 2021 – South Sudan’s COVID-19 vaccination drive kicked off today with health workers getting their first dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine at Juba Teaching Hospital. The first person in the country to be vaccinated against the virus was the Hon. Minister of Health Elizabeth Achuei.
