Botswana Conducts Training on Integrated Disease Surveillance And Response (IDSR)

Gaborone, Botswana - 27 November 2020: The Ministry of Health and Wellness with technical support of World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office conducted an Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response training to strengthen public health surveillance and response systems to COVID-19. The training was supported by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.

25 November 2020 — Twenty-nine (29) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2583 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to five thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-nine (5779). To date, five thousand, three hundred, and seventeen (5317) patients have recovered, including seventy-six (76) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four hundred and fifteen (415) and forty-seven (47) deaths.

24 November 2020 — Twenty-four (24) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 2317 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to five thousand, seven hundred, and fifty (5750). To date, five thousand, one hundred, and forty-one (5241) patients have recovered, including forty-four (44) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is four hundred and sixty-two (462) and forty-seven (47) deaths.

Globally, most countries have shown some level of improvements in maternal, reproductive and child health indicators. However, the African Region still has the highest maternal, newborn, and child mortality compared to other WHO Regions. In addition, women, adolescents and other vulnerable groups continue to face challenges in accessing quality Sexual and Reproductive Health information and services.

Malheureusement les armes pour y faire face restent encore limitées.  Il est donc indispensable que les systèmes de santé soient mieux préparés afin de faire face aux conséquences de cette pandémie sur la population et particulièrement le personnel de santé qui paye un lourd tribut (Togo : 193 cas dont un décès au 22 novembre 2020).

South Sudan vaccinates over 690 000 children against measles in 25 counties

Juba, 24 November 2020 – Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the second phase of the measles follow up campaign commenced on 15 November 2020 to vaccinate over 690 000 children aged 6 – 59 months against measles to ensure the continuation of immunization activities.

The campaign is organized and led by the Ministry of Health with support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, WHO, UNICEF and other partners, are part of the efforts to ensure immunization stays in the forefront of primary health care to protect children and future generations.
