A new COVID-19 testing laboratory commissioned in rural Sierra Leone supported by WHO

28 August 2020 — Seventy (70) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 5159 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three thousand, seven hundred, and forty-two (3742). To date, one thousand, eight hundred and sixty-six (1866) patients have recovered and been discharged, including three (3) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, eight hundred and sixty (1860) and sixteen (16) deaths. The new death is a Rwandan of 81 years old.

To date, one thousand, eight hundred and sixty-three (1863) patients have recovered and been discharged, including fifty-three (53) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, seven hundred and ninety-four (1794) and fifteen (15) deaths.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three thousand, six hundred, and twenty-five (3625). To date, one thousand, eight hundred and ten (1810) patients have recovered and been discharged, including twenty-one (21) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, and eight hundred (1800) and fifteen (15) deaths.

The Ethiopian Minister of Health, Dr Lia Tadesse, officially launched the Joint Assessment of the National Health Strategy (JANS) for Ethiopia on 21 August 2020 in a virtual launching meeting. The JANS will be conducted by an assessment team comprising independent international experts, including experts from the UN system, the World Bank, and development partners. The JANS team presented its plan of action for the conduct and delivery of the draft assessment report, and received important inputs to guide the JANS.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three thousand, five hundred, and thirty-seven (3537). To date, one thousand, eight hundred and six (1806) patients have recovered and been discharged, including twenty-one (21) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, seven hundred and sixteen (1716) and fifteen (15) deaths. The new death is a male Rwandan of 61 years old.
