WHO supports Anambra State to boost COVID-19 testing capacity, trains cohort of health workers
Akwa, 7 July, 2020 - “This capacity building is timely and has empowered us to effectively respond to COVID-19”, said Ms Ifediata Adaora, a Medical Laboratory Scientist and one of the beneficiaries of the two-day training on Covid-19 on sample management organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

Zanzibar updates its IDSR guidelines
Many public health events and emergencies and their associated risk factors could be prevented, or their effects mitigated. However, the health systems in most countries remain inadequate. To avert and mitigate the effects of health security risks and emergencies, countries are urged to implement Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) guidelines. These guidelines recommend thresholds for action on priority diseases, public health events and conditions and for responding to alerts. Using these action thresholds can be lifesaving.

Benin on track to have its scorecard on sexual and reproductive health
WHO and UK hand over 160 oxygen concentrators to support the Ministry of Health in the fight against COVID-19 in South Sudan
Juba, 3 July 2020 – the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) today handed over 160 oxygen concentrators to South Sudan’s Ministry of Health to support the country in their response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 160 oxygen concentrators will be distributed across the country to treat patients requiring oxygen.
