COVID_19 Update Rwanda

05 June 2020 — Ten (10) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1558 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four hundred and twenty (420). To date, two hundred and eightty-two (282) patients have recovered and been discharged. The number of active cases is a hundred and thirty-six (136) and two (2) deaths.


The new cases relate to the Rusizi cluster, and have been isolated and contacts traced.
 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.

Abuja, 5 June 2020 - With all countries in Africa, Nigeria inclusive, battling COVID-19, “human interaction with the ecosystem must remain balanced, otherwise we will risk disrupting nature which have consequences as we are seeing in the COVID-19 pandemic”, says Minister of Environment Dr Mohammad Abubakar.

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Honourable Prithvirajsing Roopun invited Dr Laurent Musango, WHO Representative in Mauritius at the State House, Reduit on 03 June 2020 to discuss the current situation and future perspective regarding prevention and control of COVID-19.  It was also an opportunity for the President to debate with WHO Representative on the overall health system in Mauritius, and what needs to be strengthened. Dr Laurent Musango congratulated Mauritius on behalf of the three levels of the World Health Organization, namely local, regional and headquarters, for its commitment and determination in fighting the dreadful COVID-19. The latter explained the active presence of WHO in the high-level committees and National Task Force on COVID-19 chaired by the Prime Minister, Honorable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.  The role of WHO in providing the necessary advice and guidance to the committee was stress by Dr Musango. “ The containment of the disease in the country and the decreasing COVID-19 cases were due mainly to the commitment of the high authorities in Mauritius”, underlined Dr Musango, who added that the country is among very few countries in the world which have been able to stop the spread of the infection two months after the first three COVID-19 confirmed cases were registered.  This achievement would not have been possible without the coordination and commitment of the Prime Minister himself and the engagement of the whole population said Dr Musango.

Expertise in polio eradication that has put Africa on the verge of being certified free of wild poliovirus has been brought to the frontlines of COVID-19 fight. A network of responders from the World Health Organization (WHO) Polio Eradication Programme and partner organizations is providing critical resources and skills to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

04 June 2020 — Thirteen (13) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1369 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to four hundred and ten (410). To date, two hundred and eighty (280) patients have recovered and been discharged. The number of active cases is a hundred and twenty-eight (128) and two (2) deaths.


The new cases relate to the Rusizi cluster, and have been isolated and contacts traced.
 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.

02 June 2020 — Seven (7) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 957 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three hundred and eighty-four (384). To date, two hundred and sixty-nine (269) patients have recovered and been discharged, with a second death occurred on 02nd June. The number of active cases is a hundred and thirteen (113).


The new death is a 24-year-old policewoman who was serving abroad where she fell ill with COVID-19 and was repatriated home in critical conditions for intensive care.

03 June 2020 — Thirteen (13) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 1033 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases to three hundred and ninety-seven (397). To date, two hundred and seventy-one (271) patients have recovered and been discharged. The number of active cases is a hundred and twenty-four (124) and two (2) deaths.


The new cases relate to the Rusizi cluster, and have been isolated and contacts traced.
 All active cases are in isolation in stable condition.  

New Ebola outbreak detected in northwest Democratic Republic of the Congo; WHO surge team supporting the response

The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced today that a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease is occurring in Wangata health zone, Mbandaka, in Équateur province. The announcement comes as a long, difficult and complex Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC is in its final phase, while the country also battles COVID-19 and the world’s largest measles outbreak.
