Kampala, 14 October 2019: - On Sunday, over 200 United Nations staff in Uganda participated in a run aimed at encouraging them to engage in regular physical activities for better health.

Organized by UN Wellness Team and sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), the staff covered three, five and ten kilometres under the theme ‘Walk the Talk: a WHO Healthy Work Place Initiative’ that was adopted by WHO to promote physical activities globally.

Due to this evolution, the country has ended up with many vertical sub-programs under the HIV program including Care and treatment, HIV Testing Services, Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) among others.

Maiduguri, 10 October, 2019 - Following the detection of a case of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) in Jere Local Government Area (LGA) Borno State Nigeria, a team of surveillance officers, mostly comprised of men are dispatched by the Local Government to assess the situation.

WHO Eritrea has provided a training to over 35 health workers as part of strengthening their capacities in the control and elimination of the disease lymphatic filariasis at the conference hall of the National confederation of Eritrean Workers from 30 September up to 4 October 2019.

WHO jointly with MOH had conducted a research dissemination workshop on 30 September 2019 at Orotta hospital conference hall.

Luanda, October 9, 2019 - The Angolan Ministry of Health, with technical support from WHO, carried out a data review and validation of five key Neglected Tropical Diseases. namely lymphatic filariasis (LF), onchocerciasis (Onco), schistosomiasis (SCH), geohelminthiasis or soil-borne helminths (HTS) and trachoma

The process will allow the country to identify the magnitude of neglected diseases, monitor ongoing prevention and control efforts, and determine the actions needed to achieve the control and elimination of NTDs in the country.

Katsina, 9 October 2019 - As part of an effort towards eliminating Yellow Fever epidemics in Nigeria, the Government in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Gavi, and other key partners, officially commenced Phase 3 of its planned Preventive Mass Vaccination Campaign (PMVC) in Katsina State.
