Kampala, 19th June 2019: Uganda is hosting the first ever African Hepatitis Summit. The summit is aimed at rallying partners and countries to eliminate Viral Hepatitis in Africa. The theme for the summit is, "Eliminating Viral Hepatitis in Africa; Implementing the Viral Hepatitis Strategy". The event which has brought together participants from over 25 countries, will provide an opportunity for countries to develop and work towards implementing action plans, sharing best practices and lessons learnt from each other in the fight against Viral Hepatitis.

Over 100 international guests ascended to Rwanda to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day and at the colorful event, 15 national and international donors plus 15 institutions were awarded for their role in saving lives through giving blood. Rwanda becomes the second African Country to host World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), following South Africa 15 years ago.

Juba, 14 May 2019 – “I am a regular blood donor and this is my tenth-time donating blood. I am having nothing else to offer but blood to save lives. I appeal to more people to come and give more blood”, says Rashid a committed blood donor in Juba.

Pemba, Mozambique. 17 June 2019 – The second round of cholera vaccination was launched today by the Ministry of Health in Mozambique with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health partners targeting over 285 000 people to receive oral cholera vaccine.

Gaborone - 14 June 2019: The President of Botswana, His Excellency President Dr Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi, committed his government to delivering on the promise of the National Multi-sectoral Strategy on NCDs. Speaking at the launch of the national multi-sectoral NCD strategy along with the third generation Strategic framework on HIV/AIDS, President Masisi intimated that the launch was a clarion call to all stakeholders and the nation to work together to rid the country of the dual epidemics of NCDs and HIV.
