Abuja, 22 January 2018 -The World Health Organization (WHO) has handed over 853 motorcycles to local government areas (LGAs) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ease transportation challenges faced by Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) across Nigeria.

January 17, 2018: World Health Organization, WHO, is helping the government to contain an outbreak of Chikungunya in Mombasa following reports from clinicians of increased unknown febrile illness that presented with very high fever, joint pains and general body weakness. The tests were found malaria negative and sometimes dengue fever negative.
The outbreak has affected all the six-sub counties namely, Mvita, Kisauni, Nyali, Changamwe, Jomvu and Likoni. Most cases are found on the island, Mvita.

The new World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative to Uganda, Dr Tegegn Yonas Woldemariam, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and the Minister of Health in their respective offices following his arrival in the country. 

During his two day visit to Rwanda from 11 to 12 January 2018, the Director General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, applauded the Government of Rwanda for supporting immense growth in its health sector.
 

Abuja, 11 January, 2018, In an effort to strengthen the longtime partnership between WHO and NAFDAC, the new Director-General (DG) of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Professor Moji Christiana Adeyeye paid courtesy visit to the World Health Organization Country Representative (WR) Dr Wondimagegnehu Alemu.  

The Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has reiterated the government’s commitment to ending the on-going cholera outbreak which has affected all the six sub-districts in the capital of Lusaka through a multi-sectoral response. Since the outbreak was declared on 6th October 2017, it has affected more than 2750 people with more than 50 deaths.

Juba, 10 January 2018 – Following a report of suspected viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF) outbreak in Thonabutkok village, Yirol East County on 28 December 2017, a multi-sectoral response in the context of one health was launched by the Ministry of Health, WHO and other experts from the human and animal health for an in-depth investigation to establish the cause of deaths in three people as well as reported deaths and abortions in domestic animals and wild birds.
