Abuja 16th September, 2014 - The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) in conjunction with partners, including World Health Organization, Nigeria have  developed a 3-year National Routine Immunization Strategic Plan 2013-2015. One of the objectives of the strategic plan is to strengthen EPI related capacity of the country’s frontline health workers.

On Saturday 8th March, the world marked International Women’s Day and celebrated the progress made by women globally, whilst illuminating the progress that still has to be made to guarantee equity for women. This year, the global theme for international Women’s day was: ‘equality for women, is progress for all’.

12 September 2014 -- Cuba is known the world over for its ability to train excellent doctors and nurses who can then go out to help other countries in need. And now it will send a medical team of 165 people to Sierra Leone to help in the frontline in the Ebola response efforts.

Lagos 12th September, 2014 - The Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), the State that recorded the first Ebola case in Nigeria, has emphasized that in spite of the laudable achievements publicized about the response in many quarters “our recent experience with the Ebola virus disease has taught us a lesson that the disposition of complacency is not a luxury available to us” as long as the West African sub-region is not declared free from the Ebola scourge.

Lagos, 12th September, 2014 - The WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Rui Gama Vaz,  has conveyed the gratitude of development partners for the assistance rendered to the Nigerian government by the Dangote Foundation in providing financial support for the setting-up and running of the National Ebola Emergency Operations Center in Lagos and for the Foundation’s readiness to support Public health emergencies with adequate resources.

Harare, 18 Sept. 2014:  On 12 September 2014, WHO Zimbabwe bade farewell to one of its long serving and  dedicated staff members who has been reassigned to WHO South Sudan. Dr Lincoln, Sunganayi Charimari, former NPO DPC in WCO Zimbabwe bade farewell to colleagues at an emotional farewell party held for him.

1. Doctors and nurses are the people who immediately come to mind as critical to controlling the Ebola outbreak in west Africa. But there are many others whose jobs are no less critical: engineers, architects, plumbers and construction workers.

Kampala, 10th September 2014:- Uganda hosted the first inter-country meeting on Strengthening the measurement of Reproductive Health (RH) indicators that brought together experts from Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe. This was to share experiences and update indicators from the national level consultations that were undertaken in Nairobi in 2012. The meeting was focussed on identifying the progress that had been made at country level in trying to add important Family planning and abortion related indicators.

Abuja 09 September, 2014 - Every year, thousands of children mostly under five years of age die from vaccine preventable diseases in Nigeria. The National Routine Immunization Strategic Plan (2013 – 2015), stipulates that 40% of the childhood deaths are attributed to vaccine preventable diseases such as measles, neonatal tetanus, hepatitis etc.  Some factors contributing to such alarming death rates is inequity in health services provision.
