The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) in collaboration with WHO and other partners held a one day meeting on 24 January to disseminate the National Standards for Adolescent and Young People Friendly Health Services. The standard was developed by the Directorate of Reproductive and Child Health with technical and financial assistance from WHO. The Stand-ards elaborates the key elements of quality services that are essential and that should be available, accessible and affordable to adolescents and young people in health service delivery points in the country.

Juba/Brazzaville 22 January 2014 -- The World Health Organization and other development partners have stepped up efforts to vaccinate people against the outbreak of measles and other preventable diseases at displaced camps in South Sudan.

Kampala, 20th January 2014:- Uganda has received the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) after meeting all the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Vaccine Initiative (GAVI). The vaccine is now ready for distribution to private and public health facilities in 94 out of the 112 districts of the country.

On 16th January 2014, Rwanda officially launched a six-month national campaign to improve personal, domestic and public places hygiene. The ceremony took place at a Primary School in Nkombo Island, in Rusizi District, in Western Province. The technical and financial part for the launching has been supported by WHO and UNICEF among others.

On 5 January 2014, WHO re-deployed its teams to Bouar and Kaga Bandoro, cities in western and central part of Central African Republic. Relative calm since last week allowed humanitarian agencies to resume their work in these two cities affected by the latest surge of violence that erupted last month.

More than 2500 people have been injured in the ongoing crisis in South Sudan. WHO is working with partners on the ground to ensure they get the medical care and supplies they need.

As leader of the humanitarian health cluster, WHO supports the evacuation of wounded patients to hospitals where specialist care is available and provides medical supplies and equipment to health partners caring for patients in South Sudan.

The supplies include medicines to treat large number of wounded people in the latest surge of violence in the Central African Republic.
