Ministry of Health Launches the National Protocol Guidelines for the Integrated Prevention Of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT)

Lusaka, 27 February 2009 -- The Ministry of Health today launched the second edition of the National Protocol Guidelines for the Integrated Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV and the training package for health care providers and district programme managers. The Deputy Minister of Health Honourable Mendoi Akakandelwa officially launched the guidelines at the ceremony which was held at the Ministry of Health office grounds. Infant and Young Child Feeding Mass Campaign Programme Launched In Zambia 19th February, 2009

Lusaka -The Ministry of Health in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, USAID and other partners in maternal and child health launched the Infant and Urban Clinic on 18th February 2009. The Minister of Health, Honourable Kapambwe Simbao, MP, officially launched the campaign which is specifically targeted at fighting malnutrition among children under the age of five.

Ghana hosts MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting in Accra

ACCRA, GHANA, 09 TO 13 MARCH 2009 -- Ghana is to host an MIM/TDR Task Force Meeting which will be held at the African Regent Hotel, Airport West, Accra from 09 to 13 March 2009. Thirty (30) participants comprising 12 Task Force members, 10 Principal Investigators, 4 Observers and 4 staff members from WHO Headquarters are expected to participate in the meeting.

World Blood Donor Day 2008 Commemorated at Zimuto Secondary School

Masvingo Province, 13 June 2008 -- In 2005, the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution establishing an annual World Blood Donor Day, to be celebrated on 14 June each year. The day which is meant to recognise, thank and honour those people who donate their blood voluntarily to save human lives was celebrated at Zimuto Secondary School in Masvingo Province. The theme, of Blood Donor Day this year is "Giving Blood Regularly".

Death Announcement - Dr LEE Jong-wook, Director-General of the World Health Organization, has died.

Harare,22 May 2006 - The World Health Organization Country Representative Dr.Evarist Njelesani and Staff wish to announce, with deep shock and sorrow, the death of Dr LEE Jong-wook, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

Dr Lee had been in hospital since Saturday afternoon, where he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain (a subdural haematoma). He remained in intensive care until 07.43 this morning, when he was pronounced dead.
