Eswatini is a landlocked country in Southern Africa surrounded by Mozambique on the East and South Africa on the western side, measuring 17364 km2 , with a population approximately 1,093, 238 million in 20171, 2 , 78% of whom are resident in rural areas.3 The total population consists of 48.6% males and 51.4% females. The population is distributed across four administrative regions, namely Hhohho, Manzini, Shiselweni, and Lubombo. Manzini region is the most populous (33%), followed by Hhohho region with 29%. Approximately, 60% of the population is between the ages of 15 and 64 years, and 36% are children between the ages of 0 and 14 years. Eswatini has a youthful population with the median age being 21 years. The total fertility rate (TFR) was estimated at 2.8 births per 1000 women in 2022. Declining fertility levels, coupled with a rising rate of mortality, have contributed to the low annual rates (0.7% in 2017) of population growth.
