WHO Country Office (WCO) Ethiopia trains staff on Theory of Change

Globally the work of WHO is shifting towards result-based management (RBM) in general and the theory of change (ToC) in particular. This is driven by alignment of the work of WHO with the WHO transformation programme as well as the 13th General Programme of Work (GPW13) already endorsed by the Executive Committee and expected to be endorsed by the World Health Assembly by the end of May 2018. Consequently WHO/AFRO had planned to train each WHO country team on TOC. The Ethiopia TOC workshop was held from the 7 to 11 MAY 2018 at Executive Hotel in Adama.

Ethiopia launched the 8th African Vaccination Week

Addis Ababa 23rd April 2018: The national African Vaccination Week launching in Ethiopia conducted with a press conference held at Hilton Addis Hotel in the presence of government higher officials, partners and different Media. The event was started by a brief presentation made by Federal Ministry of Health focusing on the objectives of the African Vaccination week, familiarization of the newly improved Maternal and Child Health card (Immunization card), which was also launched on this event as well as the next immunization priority directions.

Ethiopia Observed 2018 World Health Day

Addis Ababa 05 April, 2018: The 2018 World Health Day (WHD) in Ethiopia commemorated by a joint FMoH-WHO press conference which was held on 05 April 2018 at Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia (FMoH). The National Press Conference was led by H.E. Dr Kebede Worku, State Minister of Health and Dr Akpaka Kalu, WHO Representative to Ethiopia. The aim of the press was to inform the media and the public at large on the importance of the occasion. The Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia organized this press conference in collaboration with WHO with the theme “Optimizing the Health Extension Program” and it was attended by a large number of local journalists from private and public radio and TV stations, as well as the FMOH and WHO staff.

Promoting Interagency Collaboration to Ensure Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Development in Ethiopia

A meeting on an interagency framework of collaboration for implementation of the National Strategy and Plan of Action for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Development in Ethiopia (NSPA-Pharma) was conducted in Addis Ababa from 14-15 November, 2017. The meeting was co-organized by WHO in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Health and attended by various national & international organizations including UN agencies, international development partners, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Health Ethiopia and other stakeholders working in the area.

Official launch of the Ethiopia 2016 global adult tobacco survey (GATS) findings

The Government of Ethiopia released its first ever GATS findings in a workshop officially opened by Mr. Yehule Denekew, Director General of FMHACA. A series of key note addresses were delivered by Dr. Paul Mainuka, on behalf of the WHO Representative to Ethiopia Dr. Akapka Kalu following the welcoming speech by Dr. Tsegereda Kifle, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopia Public Health Institute. More than 200 participants from the House of People’s Parliament, Embassies, Officials from Federal Ministries and Regional Bureaus, universities, civil society organizations, FMHACA and WHO attended the workshop.
