Community at the heart of Benin’s malaria response

Benin has made the community central to its fight against malaria.

In Benin, 17% of the population and 39% of children aged under 5 years are affected by malaria.

In relation to the new community health policy adopted in 2020, with the support of WHO and partners, Benin has set up a health system based on a community approach.

The various partners involved are raising awareness on prevention methods and the importance of vaccinating children against malaria.

In April 2024, the country introduced malaria vaccine into its routine vaccination schedule.
