Strengthening mpox outbreak response in Africa

Since the start of 2024, 19 countries in the African region have reported mpox cases.

In support of countries, WHO is working closely with governments and partners to strengthen key outbreak response measures, including surveillance and diagnostic capacities, contact tracing, providing essential drugs for management, supplying equipment for infection prevention and control, vaccine rollout, risk communication and community engagement, and combating misinformation.

The measures are helping to control the outbreak and protect communities, and through collaboration, the efforts are being maintained to protect communities and end community transmission of the virus.
