Malawi Launches ‘Making Pregnancy Safer’ Partnership
Lilongwe, February 15, 2007 -- The Government of Malawi, the European Commission (EC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have entered into a partnership aimed at reducing maternal deaths, as a contribution to Malawi's attainment of the Millennium Development Goals.
The launch of this partnership took place on February 14 at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, the Capital City of Malawi. The guest of honour was the Honourable Minister of Health, Mrs Marjorie Ngaunje, MP. The invited guests included the WHO Representative, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, the European Commission (EC) Head of Delegation to Malawi Ambassador Alessandro Mariani, representatives of other development partners, UN agencies and NGOs. Present also at the launch were traditional authorities from the 3 focus districts of Nkhatabay, Ntcheu and Zomba, District Commissioners and health centre committee members who are implementing activities at village level.
