Abuja, 4 June, 2018 - To mark 2018 World “No Tobacco Day in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole says Nigeria loses an estimated 800 million dollars annually due to stroke, heart disease and diabetes as the tobacco industry thrive.

Abuja, 02 2017 - Nigeria is   fast-tracking achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with the development of the second National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDPII) by Federal and States’ Ministries of Health, in collaboration with development partners and other stakeholders. 

The NSHDPII’s major thrust is to ensure the Nigerian populace have universal access to comprehensive, appropriate, affordable quality essential health care through revitalization of Primary Health Care.

Maiduguri, 28 May 2018  - In a bid to interrupt measles transmission in parts of Borno state as well as boost vulnerable population’s immunity in newly accessible areas, the World Health Organization (WHO) is providing technical and financial support to the Borno state health authorities to implement a selective measles vaccination campaign. 

Yola, 28 May 2018 - The World Health Organization (WHO has deployed 39 staff with plans underway to engage additional 15 ad-hoc personnel, to rapidly contain a confirmed outbreak of cholera in Mubi North and South local government areas (LGAs) of Adamawa state.

Maiduguri,  25 May 2018 - “Why didn’t you educate us before cholera hit us last year?” asked Hauwa Bulama, an internally displaced person (IDP) at Muna garage of Maiduguri, Borno state where an outbreak of cholera affected thousands of people in 2017. 

Abuja, 22 May 2018 – In March 2017, Sunny who works as a fashion designer in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital, started coughing, experiencing chest pains, toe pain, and frequent headaches. The discomfort that came with these symptoms became unbearable and was beginning to affect his work so he decided to go to the hospital for a checkup.  To his surprise he tested positive for Tuberculosis (TB) when the results were out. 

Nigeria, 16 May 2018 – The final event marking the African Vaccination Week (AVW) ended in Abuja with calls for civil servants to become immunization champions. The call was made by the Minister of Health Professor Isaac Adewole at a sensitization workshop for three hundred (300) civil servants on the “giving back to my community” project. The event which was organized by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Ministry of Health (FMOH), Head of Service and development partners was part of the activities lined up to mark the AVW.  

Abuja, 17 May 2018 – In a bid to strengthen measles and yellow fever surveillance in Nigeria, the World Health Organization (WHO) has refurbished a porta cabin work space and donated laboratory equipment that include ELISA readers test equipment and microplate washers to Maitama General Hospital in Abuja; a laboratory that is managed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Maitama General Hospital. 

Abuja, May 17th 2018 – A four day training for staff of state Ministries of health of Bauchi, Cross Rivers, Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the National Primary Health care Development Agency has ended in Abuja with calls on the federal government and states to forecast their health workforce requirements to enable governments make informed health plans and policies for the provision of efficient and effective quality health services.

Abuja, 10 May 2018 -With six weeks of declining numbers and only a handful of confirmed cases reported in recent weeks, the critical phase of Nigeria’s largest-ever Lassa fever outbreak is under control, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, Nigeria is endemic for Lassa fever and people could be infected throughout the year, making continued efforts to control any new flare ups crucial.
