Breaking Barriers: Sindrella Anna Ayo’s journey as a female driver

Sindrella Anna Ayo, a 35-year-old driver at the World Health Organization (WHO) Uganda Country office, has become a beacon of inspiration in a profession traditionally dominated by men. She has successfully carved out a space for herself, challenging stereotypes and proving that women can excel behind the wheel. Her journey is one of determination, resilience and breaking barriers.

A social worker and nurse by training, Sindrella was born and raised in Lira district, northern Uganda. She is the fifth born in a family of four girls and two boys. 

Uganda’s final push to end Ebola

Uganda has entered a crucial 42-day countdown in its battle against the Sudan virus disease (SVD) outbreak, which belongs to the same family as Ebola virus disease.  This is a pivotal period that will determine whether the outbreak is officially declared over. 

Following the full recovery and discharge of all confirmed cases, the Ministry of Health, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, are ramping up efforts to sustain vigilance and prevent any new infections.

Uganda discharges all eight Ebola disease patients

Kampala – Uganda today discharged eight patients who had been receiving treatment for Sudan virus disease – which belongs to the same family as Ebola virus disease – after two negative tests carried out 72 hours apart. 

The recovered patients were receiving care at treatment centres in the capital Kampala and in Mbale, a town in the east of the country. A total of 216 contacts are currently being monitored in quarantine centres at various facilities in the country. 

WHO provides additional $2 million for Ebola response in Uganda

The Government of Uganda in collaboration with the World Health Organization ( WHO) and partners continue to scale up response efforts to contain the current Ebola outbreak. WHO continues to deploy additional critical resources in support of the Ugandan government’s against the Sudan virus disease outbreak.
