With chronic underfunding threatening Africa’s fight to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases, health officials and donors meeting for the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa have called for increased investments to end the neglected illnesses that affect nearly 400 million people in the region.

Senior Africa health officials, donors and development partners convened today on the side-lines of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa and urged for increased investments to end malaria, a disease responsible for close to 600 000 deaths in the region. The meeting comes at a time when the fight against malaria in Africa is facing significant unprecedented funding and biological threats.

The President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi, awarded the Presidential Order for Meritorious  Service Award to WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, for her hard work and success achieved in the implementation of the health development agenda in Africa.
