130th WHO Executive Board session begins in Geneva, Switzerland

104dff23ef9521f6a7e5bdd91edd96aa_XL.jpg16 January 2012, Brazzaville -- The 130th Session of the World Health Organization's Executive Board is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 16 – 23 January 2012.

The Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. The WHO Africa Region is represented on the Board by experts from Burundi, Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

Dr Luis Sambo, WHO Regional Director for Africa, is leading a delegation from the Regional Office to this year's session.

Among the issues on the agenda are:

  • WHO reforms
  • Prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases
  • Global burden of mental disorders
  • Maternal, infant and young child nutrition
  • Poliomyelitis: intensification of the global eradication initiative
  • Nomination of the Director-General of the World Health Organization:
  • Progress in the achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals and global health goals after 2015
