Combating HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria: Going from Progress to Impact

Brazzaville, 20 March 2014 -- Evidence from Africa’s health sector suggests that 2013 was a fairly successful year in the fight against Africa’s ‘three big’ killer diseases – HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria. 

By the end of 2013 and in early 2014, practically every major health report on the trio, and virtually all pronouncements on them by senior WHO officials in the African Region were upbeat. The cautiously optimistic pictures painted in these reports and pronouncements are bringing to an end several years of doom-and-gloom scenarios about the “three big” killers in Africa, giving way to a new era of hope.
