Dr Moeti leads WHO AFR delegation to the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly
The Regional Director Dr Moeti will lead a WHO AFR delegation to the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly which takes place in New York from 23–28 September 2018.
On Monday, 24 September, Dr Moeti will attend the High-level plenary meeting called Nelson Mandela Peace Summit organised in honour of Nelson Mandela as well as the High level Forum on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
The Regional Director will speak at the AFRO Side event on Malaria 10+1 on Tuesday, 25 September. She will also speak at the High-level meeting on Universal Health Coverage towards ending the TB Epidemic in the African Region.
On Wednesday, 26 September, she will attend the PATH-PANORAMA side event on outbreak preparedness, where she will give an update on Ebola response in DR Congo. Later during the day, she is expected to call for urgent action to address the problem of falsified, substandard medicines in Africa at an event organised jointly by WHO and other partners.
As a strong advocate for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), Dr Moeti will also be a panellist at the High level NCD Panel on NCDs. This meeting will focus on accelerating progress on prevention and control of NCDs in Africa.
The Regional Director’s programme will also include meetings with health development partners. She will be accompanied by Dr Francis Kasolo, Pamela Drameh-Avognon, Dr Prosper Tumusiime, Dr Jean-Baptiste Nikiema, Dr Maria Rebolo, Dr Jackson Sillah, Dr Wilfred Nkhoma and Kevin Ousman.
