Maiduguri, 7 March 2018 - Malam Mohammed was desperate. His wife, Hannatu was in labour with their first child, but the nearest health facility was located 10 kilometres away and the only way to get there was on foot through rough terrain. The father to be lives in Pela Olla community, which is in a remote corner of Borno state in Nigeria. 
Running out of options, Hannatu was steeling herself to deliver her baby without professional help.

WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Moeti Matshidiso was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine the highest honour that is bestowed by the school to an individual. Dr Moeti’s citation was read by Prof Rosanna Peeling amidst cheers from the graduating students. Dr Moeti received the honor with her usual grace and dedicated it to all the staff of WHOAFRO at the Regional Office and 47 country offices.

Kampala, 5 March 2018:- The World Health Organization (WHO) has convened a three-day After Action Review (AAR) meeting to evaluate Uganda's preparedness in responding to public health emergencies after the recent Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak in Kapchorwa and Kween districts. During the meeting, public health experts will examine the detection and response framework for public health hazards right from the National Task Force (NTF), the incident command management system, the various technical sub-committees and their linkages to district structures.

The President of The Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for countrywide sensitization of the people about non-genetic the causes of infertility because they are avoidable and preventable.  

28 February 2018, Hoima: - The World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting the Ministry of Health in Uganda to respond to the Cholera outbreak in Kyangwali refugee camp, in Hoima district. As of 28 February, over 1000 cases have been registered and 31 people confirmed dead at the two treatment centers in Kasonga and Sebagoro in Kyangwali and Kabwoya sub-counties respectively.

Awka, 24 February 2018 - Development Partners working in the health sector gathered formally for the first time with key government staff from Awka Anambra State to chart a course forward towards aligning development assistance to government priorities and effective coordination of activities.
