Ministry Trains National Rapid Response Team on Epidemic Preparedness & Response
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) completed a three day training workshop for the National Rapid Response Team members in Freetown from December 6-8, 2011. The training is part of MOHS’s efforts to strengthen the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) programme in the country.
The Directorate of Disease Prevention and Control coordinated the training. The objective was to strengthen the component of epidemic preparedness and response (EPR) which is still considered to be weak in Sierra Leone. Participants of the training included disease surveillance officers, laboratory technicians, and social mobilization officers. Other sector partners such as the office of national security, veterinary services and the Red Cross formed part of the training to foster a broader network of response team.
