AboutThe Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD) Programme at the WHO Regional Office for Africa supports the achievement of universal immunization coverage in the African Region, as part of broader efforts to strengthen primary health care and achieve universal health coverage, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The VPD programme’s mandate has been guided by the Regional Strategic Plan on Immunization (RSPI) 2014-2020, which was developed in line with the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) 2011-2020 and formulated through a broad-based consultative process in which stakeholders including Member States played an active role. In the coming decade (2021-2030), the VPD programme’s mandate will be guided by Immunization Agenda 2030 and the framework for action for the African Region.
