Comoros reduces the prevalence of leprosy

27 January 2025

Active case detection, treatment and follow-up of patients, preventive care for at-risk individuals, and community awareness are key strategies in the fight against leprosy in Comoros.

With support from World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, the prevalence of the disease reduced by half in 5 years—from 590 new cases in 2019 to 241 in 2023.
