World Health Organization, Rotary and other Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partners continue to strengthen efforts to end all polioviruses and protect children from the impacts of the virus.
Thanks to the strong partnership, dedication and determination of governments, frontline health workers and the collaboration of communities, the African region was declared free of indigenous wild poliovirus in 2020.
But work is still ongoing to enhance detection and effective response to end outbreaks of circulating polioviruses that still threaten the communities across the African region. Until every child is protected, the collective efforts remains crucial in crossing the last mile.
