Road to zero polio in Africa: polio eradication action plan for the WHO African Region, 2024-2025
This plan sets out a bold strategy to stop current poliovirus transmission in Africa by the end of 2025 and to prevent further spread to new countries by the end of 2026. It takes a more aggressive approach to outbreak response, with countries conducting three to five vaccination rounds instead of the previous two. It sets out actions to improve surveillance, enhance cross-border coordination, strengthen operational planning and drive high-level advocacy to rapidly detect and contain polio outbreaks.
