Ghana adopted a Food Safety Policy on 27 April, 2015 at a Stakeholders Meeting held in Accra ahead of World Health Day 2015 with the theme Food Safety from Farm to Plate. The policy was developed with technical and financial support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Ghana commemorated World Malaria Day on 25 April in Takoradi, Western Region, under the theme, “Invest in the future: Defeat Malaria” Speaking at the function, Dr Gloria Quansah-Asare, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), disclosed that Ghana has made significant progress in the fight against malaria over the past two decades as evidenced in the Ghana Demographic Health Survey (GDHS) 2014.

Accra, 22 April 2015 - Keeping vigilant against Ebola, Ghana Health Services (GHS), Vodafone Ghana Foundation and Vantage Medical Solutions (VMS) with support from World Health Organization (WHO) officially launched the first ‘health worker-to-health worker’ call service on Ebola in Ghana and Africa.

This new service was commemorated yesterday, with 63 health worker call centre operators awarded certificates following the successful completion of an intensive training on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and Infection Prevention and Control measures delivered by GHS and WHO.

Accra, 31 March 2015 - Ghana has just ended a two day discussions on a comprehensive response to end the tuberculosis (TB) epidemic in line with the WHO End TB Strategy. The workshop was under the theme:  “Implementing the WHO End TB Strategy: Lessons from the Prevalence Survey” held in Accra from 25 to 26 March 2015.

Accra, 4 March 2015 - Every year, 16 000 new cancer cases are reported in Ghana, adding to an existing burden of cancer cases, of which an estimated 2260 are breast cancer cases. In Ghana as in most developing countries, the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is increasing rapidly, particularly cardiovascular related diseases and cancers.

Accra, 17 October 2014 -- The review of the National Medicines Policy has been supported by the MOH/WHO/EU/ACP Renewed Partnership to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Systems to Improve Access to Good Quality and Safe Medicines.

The National Medicines Policy represents decisions based on the best current evidence, the consensus opinion of all stakeholders as well as the general direction of governance on pharmaceuticals. Stakeholder ownership and commitment is important to take the best collective decisions for Ghana and ensure optimized implementation in the coming years.

Accra, 26th September, 2014 -The World Health Organization (WHO) has signed an agreement with the Norwegian Government for the release of 6,200,000 Norwegian Kroner (approximately US$ 1,000,000.00 ) to support WHO’s Action Plan for Ebola Outbreak Preparedness in Ghana.

September 17, 2014 - Two experts from WHO, Dr Dominique Legros (HQ Geneva) and Dr Mamoudou H. Djingarey (IST-Ouagadougou) were in Accra from 5th September to 10th September, 2014 to provide technical support to the Ministry of Health in its effort to control the outbreak of cholera in Ghana.
