Uganda commemorates safe motherhood day

Tororo, 22nd October 2014:- Uganda commemorated the Safe Motherhood Day with a series of activities under the theme, ‘Mobilizing men as Partners and champions in prevention of teenage pregnancy’. The national commemoration was held in Tororo district and presided over by the First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Karamoja, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.

Indoor Residual Spraying project launched in Lango, Bukedi & Teso sub-regions

Lira, 3rd November 2014:-   The Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) Project was launched in fourteen districts of Lango, Bukedi and Teso Sub-regions of Uganda. This followed the closure of the same project that has been done in Acholi sub-region where 10 districts were covered since 2009.  This is a project that is being implemented by ABT Associates with funding from PMI and DFID. The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Health in Charge of Primary Health Care, Hon. Sarah Opendi.

Minister of Health flags off mattresses for Health Facilities

Entebbe, 11th November 2014:- The Minister of State for Health in charge of general duties flagged off 8,141 mattresses meant for 46 General hospitals and 173 Health Centre IVs across the country. This took place at the National Medical Stores (NMS)  premises in Entebbe.

Uganda declared free of Marburg

Kampala, 17th November 2014:- Uganda has been declared free of Marburg outbreak. At a press-briefing that took place at the Uganda Media Centre, the Minister of State for Health in charge of Primary Health Care, Hon. Sarah Opendi said, “The Marburg outbreak in Uganda has been controlled and we thank development partners for their tireless efforts in providing technical advice."

WHO Representative Visits Uganda’s Prime Minister

Trachoma Elimination Program Launched in Uganda

Buwenge, 26th November 2014:-  The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust Initiative to support trachoma elimination in Uganda was launched in Buwenge at Kagoma Primary School Grounds. Kabale, 8th December 2014:- The World Health Organization Representative (WR) for Uganda, Dr. Wondimagegnehu Alemu visited Kigezi Region, Uganda where he visited Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, Hamurwa Health Centre IV, Muko Health Centre IV, Rubanda Health Centre II, Kihanga Health Centre III, Mparo Health Centre IV and Kisiizi Hospital.

Uganda commemorates World AIDS day

Kabarole, 8th December 2014:-  Uganda commemorated the World Aids Day (1st December 2014) at Fort Portal Boma Grounds in Kabarole district under the theme  “Getting to Zero, My responsibility”.
