‘Ebola solidarity run’ organised to create awareness

Kampala, 2nd February 2015 -- The Ebola virus disease (EVD) continues to ravage Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in West Africa. Uganda, through WHO, international NGOs and partners continues to support the response efforts sending teams of health workers to help contain the disease.

Uganda hosts African regional meeting on nutrition

Kampala, 18th February 2015- Uganda hosted the Regional Meeting on Accelerating Nutrition Improvements (ANI) in Africa  that reviewed implementation status of the project from the 11 participating countries. At the same time, delegates analyzed and documented successes, challenges and lessons learned in addition to mapping ways of accelerating delivery of all targets by December 2015 when the project ends.

National Debrief Meeting on immunization held in Kampala

Kampala, 11th March 2015 - The National Debrief Meeting on integrated Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Surveillance, Post Introduction Evaluation and Immunization review took place at Hotel Africana, in Kampala. This followed meetings and field visits held for the last two weeks to develop a new comprehensive Multi-year Strategic Plan (cMYP) for Uganda.

WHO supports Research on Rotavirus diarrhea

Kampala, 27th March 2015:- Mulago National Referral Hospital received  Rotaviral testing equipment from the World Health Organization (WHO) to be used in the sentinel surveillance site to boost Rotavirus surveillance before introducing Rotavirus vaccine in 2016.

Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV campaign launched in Western Ugan...

Hoima, 27 March 2015:- The First Lady of Uganda Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni,  who is also the “Champion” of  the Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission (EMTCT) of HIV/AIDS campaign has   called upon men to be more cooperative in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  She said this at the  launch of the campaign for the Western Region  held at Boma in Hoima district.

Mrs. Museveni  said that collective effort was needed to win this battle, “nobody can do this alone, we need everyone who is willing, to provide a helping hand.”

Gulu, 27th March 2015:- The World Tuberculosis (TB) day was held at the Kaunda grounds, in Gulu district under the theme “reach the 60,000, patients in Uganda” to celebrate the reductions in numbers of TB patients in Uganda.

Agago, 18 April 2015:- Uganda Commemorated World Health day at Agago district headquarters under the theme ‘Food safety for good health’.  The overarching message to all Ugandans was to always ensure safety of food from the farm to the plate.

Uganda Commemorates World Cancer Day 2015

Kiryandongo, 21 April 2015: Uganda commemorated the World Cancer Day, under the theme ‘Cancer prevention and control not beyond us’’.  The overarching message to the people was that individuals, communities, organisations and government have a role to play in the prevention and control of cancer; ranging from vaccination to palliative care.

Inter-District eMTCT peer learning meeting held in Kampala

Kampala 4th May, 2015:- The Inter-district Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (eMTCT) Peer Learning Meeting was held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The meeting which was organized by  African Mayors’ initiative for Community action on AIDS  (AMICAALL)  was to address the problems and find solutions to improving the performance of the 25 slow-progressing districts in achieving eMTCT in Uganda.
