Kampala 27th June 2016:- Twenty seven (27) districts in are currently experiencing a Malaria upsurge.  They include Koboko, Nebbi, Moyo, Adjumani, Amuru, Nwoya, Gulu, Oyam, Lamwo, Kitgum, Agago, Hoima, Bundibugyo, Amuria, Nakasongola, Kamuli, Busia, Serere, Kumi, Bukedea, Ngora, Butambala and Lyantonde among others.

Kampala, 8 July 2016 -- 14th June every year is World Blood Donor Day. It is meant to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary blood donors who save millions of human lives globally through blood donations.

The theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day was “Blood connects us all”. It was meant to highlight the common bond that all people share in their blood.

19 July 2016 - The World Health Organization (WHO) donated motorcycles and laptop computers to six districts   to improve maternal, child health and nutrition. The districts are Iganga, Luuka, Namutumba in Eastern Uganda and Hoima, Masindi and Kibaale in Western Uganda.

The six districts are part of the Accelerating of Nutrition Improvements in Sub-Saharan Africa (ANI) a WHO/Government of Uganda supported nutrition project that has been implemented since 2013.  The project aims at scaling up nutrition services and strengthening nutrition surveillance using routine health data.

Kampala, 25th July 2016 - The Global Laboratory Initiative Africa (GLI-Africa) has introduced a framework to coordinate partners and activities basing on the Tuberculosis laboratory diagnostic network in the African region. This was at a three day meeting held recently at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Kampala 22 August 2016 - The World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Uganda organized a 5-day training workshop to build capacity of staff in Scientific writing at Hotel Africana in Kampala, in collaboration with Sustainable Sciences Institute (SSI) which trained the staff.

Jinja, 24th August 2016 - The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uganda has organized a four-day retreat to orient the new and old National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) staff. Through funding from Department for International Development (DFID), Global Fund, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI) and other partners, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has recruited a number of staff and received more staff seconded by WHO and UNICEF.

Kampala 25th August 2016 - The newly elected Rotary Uganda PolioPlus Committee Chair Ms. Dorothy Naudegga Kabugo paid a courtesy visit to the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative in Uganda Dr. Alemu Wondimagegnehu at the WHO office premises. Flanked by a Rotary Uganda member, Mr. Francis Wangi, they were received by WHO’s Dr. Annet Kisakye, the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) Team leader who introduced them to the WHO representative.

Jinja, 29 August 2016 - The Ministry of Health (MoH) and partners with support from World Health Organization (WHO), convened a four-day orientation retreat for new and old staff of the Uganda National Malaria Control Program. The new staff were recruited through WHO and UNICEF with support from (DFID), Global Fund against Malaria, HIV and TB, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI).

The World Health Organization Regional Office in Africa (WHO AFRO) and United Nations Children’s Education fund (UNICEF) together convened a workshop to orient 14 Anglophone countries on theNew Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in responding to a Poliovirus event or outbreak, at the Common Wealth Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, Kampala.

The World Health Organization Country Office in Uganda and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) convened to discuss the proposed CDC-WHO Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) on Health information architecture and interoperable standards for public health surveillance of Ebola and other highly infectious diseases. The meeting took place at the WHO country office in Uganda.
