Steering Committee for Eritrea Health Observatory Established

On the 18th February 2021, the Ministry of Health (MOH) called a meeting to establish a steering committee to coordinate activities of the National Health Observatory. The meeting held at the WHO Country Office in Eritrea was attended by 15 participants from Ministry of Health; Ministry of National development (statistics office); Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Ministry of Land Water and Environment and Ministry of Agriculture, WHO and UNICEF. 

Rwanda receives COVID-19 Vaccines through COVAX

Kigali, 3 March 2021 — Rwanda today received the first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX initiative. The first batch of 240,000 doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine arrived in Kigali on Wednesday morning. A second shipment of 102,960 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, also from the COVAX facility is expected to arrive on Wednesday evening. 

Update COVID-19 02 March 2021

02 March 2021 — One hundred, and twenty-five (125) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 4578 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases nineteen thousand, one hundred, and eleven (19111). To date, seventeen thousand, three hundred, and forty-two (17472) patients have recovered, including one hundred, and fifty (150) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, three hundred, and seventy-four (1374) and two hundred, and sixty-five (265) deaths. 

Update COVID-19 01 March 2021

01 March 2021 — One hundred, and thirty-six (136) new COVID-19 cases were identified out of 3410 samples tested today. This brings the cumulative number of confirmed cases eighteen thousand, nine hundred and eighty-six (18986). To date, seventeen thousand, three hundred, and twenty-two (17322) patients have recovered, including nine (9) in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases is one thousand, and four hundred (1400) and two hundred, and sixty-four (264) deaths. 

COVID-19 vaccines shipped by COVAX arrive in Nigeria

Abuja, 2 March 2021 - Today, Nigeria received nearly 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO. 

The arrival marked a historic step towards the goal to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, in what will be the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. The delivery is part of a first wave of arrivals in Nigeria that will continue in the coming days and weeks.
