Lagos, 20 June 2019 - The Deputy Governor of Lagos state, His Excellency Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat assures that “All hands are on deck to end polio in Lagos soon”.

During a courtesy visit by a team of health development partners, led by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA)  in his office on 18 June 2019, the Deputy Governor assured that the state will leave no stone unturned until it stops  the current circulation of polio virus on the state.

Yola, 19 June 2019 - With the notification of newly confirmed cases  from Yola North, Yola South and Girei local government areas (LGAs), the Adamawa State Ministry of Health has declared on 18 June 2019 an outbreak of cholera. As of 17 June 2019, a total of 76 cases have been reported, including one death from three LGAs Yola North (44 cases including 1 death), Yola South (1 case) and Girei (31 cases).

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives for the enormous efforts they put to adopt the Food and Medicine Proclamation No. 1112/2019 in which strong tobacco legislations are incorporated. The House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia is one of the six recipients of the No Tobacco Award for 2019

Uganda hosts Inaugural African Hepatitis Summit

Kampala, 19th June 2019: Uganda is hosting the first ever African Hepatitis Summit. The summit is aimed at rallying partners and countries to eliminate Viral Hepatitis in Africa. The theme for the summit is, "Eliminating Viral Hepatitis in Africa; Implementing the Viral Hepatitis Strategy". The event which has brought together participants from over 25 countries, will provide an opportunity for countries to develop and work towards implementing action plans, sharing best practices and lessons learnt from each other in the fight against Viral Hepatitis.
