Pictorial Newsbrief: Dr. Luis Gomes Sambo visits the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho
The World Health Organization Director for Africa, Dr. Luis Gomes Sambo said the WHO is willing and ready to work with United Nations Agencies and other health development partners to support the Government of Lesotho (GoL) in addressing the issue of Human Resource for Health (HRH) in the Mountain Kingdom.
Dr. Sambo was on a three-day visit (June 17-19) to the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. The Regional Director, accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Mphu Ramatlapeng, was warmly received by the Right Hon Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Pakalitha Mosisili, in his office where they had discussions on the overall health situation, including challenges facing Lesotho. Both agreed that the HIV scourge, high Maternal Mortality Ratio and Human Resource for Health are the main Health challenges facing the country. Dr. Sambo told the PM that he was aware of the efforts being undertaken by government to improve the health of the people in general and to address the HIV scourge and high maternal mortality in particular. The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister promised that the government will continue to step up efforts to address these challenges.
