22nd Health Sector Joint Review Mission commences in Kampala

30 September 2016 - The 22nd Annual Health Sector Joint Review Mission (JRM) under the theme “Embracing new health reforms and innovation to improve Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) services in Uganda took place at the  Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The objectives of the 22nd JRM were:

Burden of non-communicable diseases on the rise

3 October 2016 - The World Health Organization (WHO) in Uganda made a presentation on the burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) to the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Uganda under the theme “Non-Communicable Diseases: An Epidemic in Revolution”. The meeting was hosted by World Food Program at their offices in Kampala.

Uganda commemorates Safe Motherhood Day 2016

October 2016 - Kisowera Primary School playground in Mukono District was filled with activity as Uganda commemorated the Safe Motherhood Day 2016 under the theme ‘Expanded Opportunities for Adolescent Health Services; End Maternal Mortality.' The commemoration focused Adolescent Health services due to high numbers of teenage pregnancy which largely contributes  to maternal mortality.

WHO hosts stakeholder meeting to finalize the Integrated Vector Management strategy

November 2016 - The Ministry of Health National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) convened a consultative meeting, at the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uganda, to update stakeholders on the process of developing an Integrated Vector Management (IVM) strategy for Uganda and gather their inputs into the draft strategy. During the meeting, NMCP stressed the need for an IVM strategy for Uganda as the country moves towards the 2030 elimination target.

WHO Uganda launches the 3rd Country Cooperation Strategy 2016-2020

November 2016 - The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng officially launched the 3rd World Health Organization (WHO) Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) noting that it is well aligned with government priorities as outlined in the Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP) 2015/16 - 2019/20 and the Second National Development Plan (NDPII) 2015/16 – 2019/20.

Uganda hosted five-day African Region Workshop on understanding and tracking the Tuberculosis (TB) epidemic for policy and programmatic action. The workshop was organized to build capacity of countries to understand and track the TB epidemic using routine surveillance data and the use of findings to inform policy and programmatic action at global, national and subnational levels.

Uganda vaccinates against Meningitis type A in the 39 high-risk districts

Uganda launched a vaccination campaign against Meningococcal Meningitis type A, under the theme “It’s free, safe, and effective” at Lalogi grounds, Omoro district.  The campaign intended to reduce morbidity, mortality and disability due to meningitis was launched by Uganda’s health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng in the presence of local and national leaders including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Right Hon. Mr. Jacob Oulanya.
